Appreciation of Movie and Culture

On 11 February 2026, the Wellness and Enrichment Team hosted a movie sharing event designed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of the themes of family, care and love. The event began with a brief introduction by Dr Hu Pengnan of the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, who framed the core values explored in the featured film and guided viewers through key moments.
The film tells the story of a father struggling with his relationship with his son, who does not meet his expectations as a pianist. Upon discovering that the boy he raised for six years is not his biological child, the father embarks on a journey to find his original son. Through this journey, the film reveals that love, rather than genetics, is what truly defines family.
A highlight of the event was the speaker’s insightful commentary after crucial scenes, which helped illuminate subtle cinematic details and symbolic elements. In addition to the screening, the event featured interactive mini-game booths that introduced participants to cinema from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Japan.
Overall, this event offered more than just movie watching; it provided an opportunity to explore hidden cinematic languages and diverse film cultures. It served as a platform to enrich students’ cultural understanding and critical appreciation of films.
