The FHM ‘In-Depth Hong Kong Tour: So Lo Pun & Lai Chi Wo in Sha Tau Kok’ was held on 22 May 2026.
Blessed with beautiful weather, the taught postgraduate students visited Sha Tau Kok to experience the unique cultural atmosphere and natural beauty of the region firsthand.
This tour was an immersive learning experience that extended far beyond the classroom. Amidst the natural landscape, students listened to captivating stories of historical change shared by our guides, gaining insight into the true stories of the Hakka community. These meaningful interactions provided students with a multifaceted understanding of local customs and the evolution of village life, as well as a deeper perspective on the historical development of the New Territories and the government’s efforts in rural conservation.
Through the warm and sincere sharing of the Village Head of So Lo Pun, Ms Jane Wong, and a local villager, participants were reminded that history is not merely found in textbooks; it is a living memory meant to be experienced by walking through the land.
This tour has fostered cultural connections among the students. It is our hope that the insights gained and the emotional connection forged with this land will serve as a source of inspiration for our students in their future studies and personal growth.
